Cadence is a music education program that works with healthcare providers to supply patients and participants with different modes of music education and experimentation for the patient to express their emotions in order to reach their personal goals.
Through the use of the four interventions of Cognitive Behavioral Music Therapy, Cadence aims to create a safe and creative space for those actively in therapy or seeking therapy for substance use disorder (SUD).
-
Receptive
The patient responds silently, or in another modality.
-
Improvisation
Spontaneous music making using simple instruments, body percussion, or voice. This allows the therapist to listen and interpret.
-
Recreation
The patient is encouraged to play or sing to a pre-composed song in a manner that supports identified goals.
-
Composition
This is a process where therapists support the patient in creating their own music or lyrics. This intervention is either recorded or performed live.
